Fly through the airport with DLH’s insider tips
Whether it’s for coffee, roller coasters or your upcoming flight, nobody likes lines. That includes the staff of the Duluth International Airport. We’re dedicated to making your travel experience as quick, easy and relaxing as possible, and that means we want you to spend as little time in lines as possible.
Here, then, are seven insider tips for how to fly through DLH the next time you #FlyDLH.
- Get to the airport early
We recommend arriving at DLH ninety minutes prior to your flight’s departure, especially during our morning and mid-afternoon rush. That will leave you plenty of time to check any luggage, get through security and get settled at your gate.
- Skip the accessories
If you’re not wearing a belt, you won’t have to take it off to go through security. Same goes for jewelry, heavy coats and multiple layers with lots of pockets and zippers. Wearing comfortable clothing that isn’t excessively bulky or loose will get you through TSA faster and easier.
- Follow the 3-1-1 rule
Liquids, gels, aerosols, creams and pastes in carry on luggage must be 3.4 ounces (100ml) or less per container. Place them in a single quart-sized, clear, plastic, zip-top bag. Have it removed from your luggage and ready to place it in a separate tray when you reach security.
- Snack smart
Solid foods (bread, meat, fruit, etc.) can be packed in carry on luggage without worry. Liquid or gels (yogurt, pudding, milk, etc) have to be 3.4 ounces or less per container or be placed in checked luggage. The exception to these rules are food purchased in the airport once you’ve cleared security, which you are free to bring on board.
- Ready while waiting
You’ll get through security faster if you follow these steps:
- Have your I.D. and boarding pass out and ready for the TSA agent
- Place your laptop and toiletries in a separate bin from your bag
- Remove your shoes, as well as your belt and light jacket (if wearing them)
- Get Pre✓™
DLH now offers TSA Pre✓™ for travelers interested in taking advantage of expedited security screening. This program allows travelers to leave on their shoes, light outerwear and belt, keep their laptop in its case and their 3-1-1 compliant liquids/gels bag in a carry-on, in select screening lanes. If you have any additional questions about what you should pack, bring or do when flying, drop by our website or check with the TSA.
Follow these seven tips and you’ll be flying through the Duluth International Airport and on to your destination in no time.
